Elysium means paradise in Greek mythology, and this wine has been a little bit of paradise for me for a while. Actually, the first time I had it, I was stuck on their Essencia and didn't like it, but the next time around, I was moved over to this wine.

Like a lighter port, this wine has oomph to it, but even more so, it has the greatest flavors of blackberry, raspberry and dark cherry combined with muscat (the varietal is actually a cross of Muscat and another grape called Schiava Grossa). But this wine does remind you of a port. The body is heavy and it's like a weighty velvet on your tongue, but it goes down smooth, and finishes slowly.

This wine would actually be perfect as a sauce over something like cake or pie.

If you haven't tried it, go out and get you some. You'll thank me.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
