I figured that I would have the Merlot but I, in fact,
mistakenly pulled the wrong bottle. I didn't realize my
error until after I had already opened it.
This wine is 60% Shiraz and 40% Carmenere with a rich,
deep purple that reminds me of the color (and dye) that
royal robes were dyed in (the dying was actually done in
Africa, believe it or not).
The body of this wine is on the lighter side, but so are
the tannins, though there are enough that impart the wood
from the barrels used somewhere in the process. Being that
the body is very light, giving a very dry taste to this
wine, you can taste cherries, which is the preeminent fruit
aspect. Aside from that, there are elements of a dry spice
as well as well worn smoke.
This wine would pair excellently with anything that is
grilled or poultry deeply seasoned. I hate it with some
stewed chicken as they were out of jerk chicken this time
around.
