As I enter the wine industry more deeply, there are a lot of nice perks, like getting invited to meet with producers from different regions and learning more about certain styles of wines. Lately, I was invited to a small tasting of eight producers of wines from Campania.
This wine, from Cantine Rao features a grape varietal that I have never heard of before, which is Pallagrella Bianco; thereis also a red version as well. Eighty person this varietal with the remainder being either Fiando di Avellino or Fiano de Campania; I didn't ask which one specifically.
Now this is a very dry white wine, with a muted acidity that hits immediately and then drops off very quickly. The taste is more herbaceous, with just the slightest amount of petrol to it. This is a wine that would go great with cold pasta salads, green veggies, and poultry dishes like lemon chicken.
This is not a wine for everyone, but for those that really like a variety of white wines, especially like a Sancerre.
