It's interesting that I tried this wine at this time, because I have had it in my rack for a couple of weeks and in four days I will be at a lovely Brunello festival. It was only last year that I learned the beauty of Brunello, and late last year that I started learning more about the great Sangiovese grape (there are over seventy varieties of it).
This wine is 54% Sangiovese, 29% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Montepulciano; it is divine. It's aged for sixteen months in 45% new French oak barrels. This of course means that the rest is aged in either French oak barrels that have already been used, or previously used barrels that are made from other types of oak. I want to actually say that you can get a little whiff of the fresh wood in this.
I get a combination of toffee/caramel, cocoa and maybe the undercurrent of some dark currants in this wine, but I am sure that other people will be able to discern some other flavors as well. The finish goes down nicely like silk on the back of your throat reminding you of some great confectionary establishment. And then it generates a little warmth in the back of your throat.
There is no need to talk about mouth or color with this wine because the taste is absolutely perfect.
