I have been holding off on trying the Oak Ridge Zinfandel offerings simply because I am hooked on those of more than 15% in alcohol content.  However, needing something to round out the six bottles needed to get the discount at Total Wines, I figured I would try this one.

I must say that it totally surprised me, as the aroma of it carries swiftly and strongly to your nose, filling it with a combination of smoke and spice that you would normally think of a nice Easter ham (the cloves).  I literally just inhaled this for at least thirty seconds before trying the taste.

Now, the taste itself reminds me of a little cinnamon and coriander and I get muted dark fruits, but the spice overtakes all else in the finish.  I get the fruit in for about the first three to ten seconds and then the spice takes over again.  Not bad, and perfect for the price.

Our Mission: The Black Winer strives to expose African Americans [and others] to wines, without the flair, stuffiness, and airs of elitism and snobbery that you get from sommeliers and high level wine enthusiasts. We believe in finding something that you like the taste of, outside of the basic brands that you have been force-fed over the years through a combination of ethnically targeted advertising, and what people in your family have historically been drinking.
